A Portuguese symbol, the Port wine appears for the first time, as we know it today, in 1756, after the creation of the Douro Demarcated Region, the first world wine Region in the world.
The Port wine is a fortified red or white wine made by a traditional method, consisting in stopping the by adding grape brandy.
There are two main Port wines types:
– The red, with two groups: wines without vintage, made with blends from different years ( Ruby, Tawny, 10, 20, 30, 40, and more) and the wines made from a single year (Vintage and Colheita).
The white Port wine is made exclusively from white vine varieties with the same vinification process as the red Port wine .
